Peter Braesicke has been Head of Research and Development at the German Weather Service (DWD) since September 1, 2024. At the same time, he was appointed to the Executive Board of the national weather service.

Research and teaching:
In addition to teaching theoretical meteorology and climatology, Peter Braesicke's personal research focuses on stratospheric ozone, seamless modeling and the interaction of chemistry and climate. As Head of the Research and Development Division at DWD, he is responsible for the departments "Meteorological Analysis and Modeling", "Central Meteorological Procedures" and the research observatories on Hoher Peißenberg and in Lindenberg.

Curriculum vitae:
Peter Braesicke was born in Berlin in 1969. There he studied meteorology at the Free University (FU), where he received his doctorate in 1998. After 14 years as a scientist at the University of Cambrigde (UK) and since its foundation at the National Centre for Atmosheric Science (NCAS), Peter Braesicke moved to the Institute for Meteorology and Climate Research - Atmospheric Trace Gases and Remote Sensing (IMKASF) at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in 2013. As Professor of Theoretical Atmospheric Physics, he initially headed the Modeling Department before being appointed head of the institute in 2020.
